Breakdown of the tutoring aspect

PURPOSE

WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE

FOCUS AREAS

To boost academic confidence and achievement by giving youth focused, consistent instructional support that connects to their classroom learning.

FOCUS AREAS

WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE

FOCUS AREAS

  • Subject mastery: Targeting key areas where a student needs extra help—reading, math, science, or other coursework—so they can grasp concepts they struggle with and keep up with grade-level expectations.

  • Study and problem‑solving skills: Teaching how to break down assignments, organize work, and approach questions methodically, not just giving answers.

  • Confidence and motivation: Using short wins and clear progress to build belief that they can succeed academically, which often leads to better engagement in school.

  • Individual support within a small group or one‑on‑one format: Allowing tutors to adapt to each student’s pace and learning style rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all lesson.

WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE

  • Sessions once a week—to keep momentum and reinforce learning.

  • Small‑group or one‑on‑one setup so the tutor can customize instruction and monitor progress closely.

  • Alignment with the student’s current schoolwork or goals, plus brief check‑ins on progress, challenges, and skill practice.

  • Hands‑on practice and guided review rather than only lectures; tutors model approaches, then students try with support.
